The Importance of Revision

By: Madison Brule

Hello everyone! Today I am here to share the importance of revision! In this post, I will share what I have revised, my objectives with revision, and my major takeaways! Revision is a key step to making your posts or projects better than what they were. Revision allows you to learn more about potential weaknesses and strengths one of your projects may have. If you wanted to take it further, there is always the option to have some revise with you, but for this post, I will just be revising my own work.

The first post I will be revising is my post entitled “My Digital Literacy Narrative”. To start off, I will be revising the title of my blog post. Right now it looks more like a heading for a paper rather than a blog post, so this is the very first thing I changed. I also find it important to break up the story as it helps to guide the reader. So for my second revision, I found great stopping points and made new paragraphs for each new main objective. Next, I got rid of unnecessary words and sentences. For example, in one of my sentences, I started off with “I would say…” I felt that this was unnecessary and got rid of things such as that. Lastly, I went through and made sure to correct my language. An example I found in my post was the word “site” I changed this to “website”.

For my second post, I will be revising “My Topic Proposal”. To start off, I will be, again, revising the title of this post. This is very similar to the first revision I did for my first post. I find it important to have a good title and list which number blog post I am writing so that my audience can follow along and make sure they haven’t missed a post. Next, I felt that this post didn’t have much structure. Again, I find it important to find good stopping points and insert a break and start the new subject. As mentioned before, this helps with the flow of content and directing the reader’s attention. Lastly, I felt that this post ended on a weird note and didn’t quite have a good conclusion paragraph so I added a paragraph summarizing why naturopathic medicine is a good choice and how big of a role this topic has in my life.

Lastly, For my third post, I will be revising “My Wikipedia Experience”. To start off, The suggestion I had was to make this post more structured. In doing so, I found good ending points and made a new paragraph to start another point. I really thought I did a good job of walking the audience through composing a Wikipedia article so I felt I didn’t need to revise any of my content on this post. However, I did want to add the importance of every topic won’t fit a certain template. Every topic can and will have more information than the topic I presented in my post. So I thought it was important to include this and remind everyone that I am simply there to help them walk through the process.

Overall, I wanted to share my key takeaways from revision. As mentioned before, revision can help you to discover more about the topic or even find the strengths and weaknesses of your project. Even having a second or even a third set of eyes looking at your project could help tremendously in improving your article. As time goes on and history writes itself, more and more information is released or discovered, so in this aspect adding more information to a topic can be very important to understand a certain topic. But also making sure that the information you presented in your project is facts is highly important. The last thing we want to do is contribute to the never-ending pool of fake news.

Lastly, revision is when an author or even a project manager can find there personal strengths and weaknesses. Revision can not only help the material itself but the person finds out better and more effective ways of presenting the information. When I was revising my posts, I often thought to myself; Does this make sense, and will my audience make sense of it? And how could I make this clearer or does my explanation seem foggy? These and more questions can help you to self-revise on how you present information in the present and in the future. I hope this post helps to contribute to the world of revision and finds you well on your way to an even better post!
